New York is known for its bustling cities and hectic crowds, but it’s also a state full of rest and relaxation. Escaping to the scenic, peaceful town of Lake Placid, NY, is a chance to let life slow down for a minute, and what’s more relaxing than trying your new favorite beer for the first time? We take brewing seriously in Lake Placid, NY, with an annual celebration for Oktoberfest and tons of breweries with food. The beauty of Grand Adirondack Hotel is its convenience. There are three incredibly popular breweries within close distance of our Main Street location!

Lake Placid Pub & Brewery

Just an eight-minute walk with views of Mirror Lake on the way, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery is local favorite. With 350,000 pints brewed annually, you’re certain to find your new favorite beer.  Although you can find several of their tasty creations throughout the Northeast, only at the pub can you enjoy more of their unique & special brews like Salted Caramel Amber, Moose Island Ale, Skyward I.P.A., Dr. Fogg’s Oatmeal Stout, or High Peaks Hefeweizen.  The Pub has been named the ‘Best Brewery in New York State’ twice and offers a classic pub menu including cheese curds, salads, pizzas, burgers, fish & chips, & comfort foods like bison meatloaf.  Don’t forget to grab a growler, crowler, or 6 pack before leaving the pub!

The Great Adirondack Brewing Co. on Main Street

The Great Adirondack Brewing Co., the closest option at just four minutes north by foot, has been one of the best breweries in upstate NY since 1996. It has food, but you won’t find the menu online—it’s curated daily based on which ingredients are most fresh and available. Call ahead and ask or allow yourself to be surprised by the always-delicious options. They brew roughly 86,800 pints of beer per year out of this Lake Placid, NY, shop, but their batches never get boring. Try the currently pouring Belgian ale Rhuberry Tart, a sour beer made with locally-sourced rhubarb and strawberries. For a more traditional Main Street sip, try the piney, citrusy John Brown IPA or the rich, chocolatey Whiteface Stout.

Big Slide Brewery & Public House

Just a short, 10 minute drive, Big Slide Brewery & Public House opened in June of 2016. A hybrid 3.5/5 barrel brew-house stands right in the center of the restaurant, which also features a concrete-topped bar, a comfortable dining room, a beautiful (dog-friendly) patio, and a semi-open kitchen. Offering 10 house beers on tap, with a wide variety of styles from Sours and Goldens to Pale Ales, IPAs, Porters, Stouts, and Belgian beers. There are always new and exciting beers to try like a Chili Pepper Pale Ale or a Brett Biere de Garde.  Pushing the envelope of beer styles, they boast a separate fermentation room, lovingly entitled The Funk Room, designed specifically for sour and wild-fermented beers such as Berliner Weisse, Gose, and Lambic beers.  In the middle of the bar, you will see a wall of wooden barrels which is their extensive barrel-aging program at work, where they use bourbon, red wine, and fresh oak barrels to age their brews.

Executive Chef Greg Sherman sources most of their ingredients locally, and offers the freshest food in the area, including Brunch on Sundays! This is not your typical pub grub, but it is approachable and delicious. The menu features snacks, salads, sandwiches, brick-oven pizzas and delicious entrees.

With all these incredible breweries, it’s no surprise that we throw one of the top five Oktoberfest celebrations in North America, according to SKI Magazine. You can always visit these New York breweries with food when you stay at Grand Adirondack Hotel, but we’d be thrilled to share our annual Bavarian-style bash with you.
