AUSABLE CHASM

Ausable Chasm is one of America’s oldest natural attraction. Millions of visitors explore the famous depths of the Chasm. Come and see beautiful waterfalls and unique rock formations for yourself! Whether you take in the view from the robust bridges or walkways and stairs, your whole family will enjoy the “Classic Tour” with a scenic raft float through the lower Chasm or a tubing adventure to cool off on hot Lake Placid summer days! HIGH FALLS GORGE

High Falls Gorge

This next activity only takes half an hour, so grab your camera and take in the Adirondacks’ breathtaking High Falls Gorge! Four outstanding waterfalls shooting over rocks, ice, water and wind cracks carved billions of years ago. Explore the natural history, geology, and forestry on self-guided tours the educational signage along the way will tell you everything there is to know! The River View Cafe features light lunch and snacks, while proudly serving regional beers and New York State wines. There’s also an Adirondack gift shop.

THE WILD CENTER

The Wild Center is a favorite attraction in the Adirondacks! Enjoy the new Wild Walk trail, as you get closer to the natural world by venturing across the treetops! The Center features a museum store, cafe, and daily events.

SWIMMING

It wouldn’t be a true Lake Placid summer if you didn’t make a splash in one of the three thousand lakes or in one of the many rivers! Swimming is a family favorite activity for Lake Placid guests because there’s nothing like cool mountain water on a hot Adirondack day! Whether you’re searching for a sandy beach, or a hidden oasis you’ll find your happy place in Lake Placid. Be sure to follow posted signs, although you are hiking on state property the bordering streams may be privately owned.
